I’ve been happy to be a part of the Salisbury Chamber of Commerce Young Professionals for the past three years. I’ve met some amazing people through this networking opportunity who are not only my own age, but are amazingly talented individuals in their area of expertise. This years event featured live entertainment from the band Hot Meals, an Iron Chef Challenge from food vendors SoBo’s Wine Bistro, Peaky’s Restaurant, Adam’s Ribs, Kanpai Sushi, Brew River Restaurant, Captains Table and craft beer from Evolution Craft Brewing Company, New Belgium Brewing and Burley Oak Brewing Company as well as wine from Layton’s Chance Vineyard and Winery. PANTECH OPEN 2011 DEW TOUR // OCEAN CITY, MARYLAND

I had an opportunity to shoot the first stop of the Pantech Open 2011 Dew Tour held in Ocean City, Maryland. There were five categories of events: Skate Vert, Skate Bowl, BMX Park, BMX Vert and Surf. It was great rubbing elbows with some of the best in the business like Pierre-Luc Gagnon, Shaun White, Pedro Barros, Ryan Nyquist and Baltimore’s Own Bucky Lasek. Here are a few of my favorites from the week.

LUNAR ECLIPSE ~ 2010 WINTER SOLSTICE

Like many of you I woke up at 3:17 AM and headed out to the back yard and witnessed the last (in my lifetime anyway) winter solstice lunar eclipse. NASA reports this is the first time an eclipse has coincided with a soltice since December 21, 1638 and the next one won’t come around again until 2094.

FIRE PREVENTION WEEK // OCEAN CITY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Most of you know the fire department is and has been a very important part of my life. I’ve been a volunteer firefighter in Ocean City, Maryland for the past 17 years and I’ve been a career fire investigator in Worcester County, Maryland for almost a decade. The second week of October is always fire prevention week and this year I spent some time with the Ocean City Fire Department at the Ocean City Elementary School spreading the fire prevention message. This years theme is “Smoke Alarms: A Sound You Can Live With!” Enjoy.

DOLLE’S CANDYLAND 100 YEAR ANNIVERSARY // OCEAN CITY MARYLAND EVENT PHOTOGRAPHER

It was an honor to be asked by Dolle’s Candyland to document their 100 year anniversary party held this past weekend in Ocean City, Maryland. Despite the rainy weather, the event was very well attended by scores of current, past, and certainly some future employees. The highlight of the event was most definitely the amazing cake from Charm City Cakes in Baltimore, Maryland on display. Congratulations to Dolle’s on this milestone and best of luck with the next 100 years!

FOUNDATION WORKSHOP 8 // PHOTOJOURNALISM

I had the opportunity this year to attend the eighth annual Foundation Workshop in Allen, Texas. I’ve taken a number of training courses over the years, FW8 was one of the most educational ones I’ve taken to date. Foundation Workshop allows wedding photographers the opportunity to work with some of the world’s best photojournalists to develop a more documentary style of wedding photography. I was assigned to Tyler Wirken’s team and had some amazing mentors: Janine McClintock, Sergio and Brett Butterstein. My photojournalism assignment was to document the famous Baby Back Shak in Dallas, Texas where they have a bustling lunch crowd and award winning food. There were a lot of up’s and down’s for me mentally. I think overall my experiences I learned here will ultimately make me a better photographer. I am happy for the opportunity and I look forward to seeing my work progress. Many thanks to the staff and photographers who documented the event. I’d be remissed if I didn’t mention Joe G for introducing me to the opportunity.

AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY – BARK FOR LIFE // BERLIN MARYLAND EVENT PHOTOGRAPHER

I had the pleasure of being asked to document the 1st Annual North Worcester County “Bark For Life” fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. The event was held at the South Gate of Ocean Pines, Maryland and despite having soggy weather was well attended. There were vendors selling dog treats, dog toys and dog accessories. There were food vendors and contests the dogs and owners could enter, my favorite was the dog kissing contest! There were even elementary school kids signing “Who Let the Dogs Out”. Many thanks to Allison and Aaren for asking me to document the event, I’ll definitely be back next year with my big brown dog in tow! SALISBURY MARYLAND YOUNG PROFESSIONALS – SALISBURY MARYLAND EVENT PHOTOGRAPHER

I almost forgot about it until my trusty iPhone reminded me I needed to head on over to Rowen’s Mill in Fruitland, Maryland for the Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce Young Professionals Committee networking event. The “Taste of the Town” event featured light hors d’oeuvres from several Salisbury area food vendors such as Liquid Assets, Brew River, ikebana, Station 7, SoBo’s Wine Bistro, Bistro 54, Market Street Inn, Black Diamond Catering, Peaky’s and drink vendors Pepsi and Evolution Craft Brewing Co. The SACC YP committee took a few moments to recognize the vendors and bring the attendees up to speed on the future of the YP’s and other upcoming events. SACC YOUNG PROFESSIONALS SOCIAL ~ BORDELEAU VINEYARDS

I attended the Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce’s Young Professionals networking event held last night at the Bordeleau Vineyards & Winery in Eden, Maryland. Vineyard owner and wine maker Tom Shelton hosted the event and provided wine tasting and cellar tours. A great event to meet some fellow Young Professionals in and around the Salisbury, Maryland area. I recommend the Vidal Blanc if you plan to visit!
