RENEE + JOHN // WEDDING

I always get excited when a friend calls and asks if I am available to shoot their wedding. I cross my fingers when flipping through the dates on my calendar in hopes that I am not already committed. So when John called me and asked if I was available to shoot his big day you can imagine how elated I was that I was free and clear. John and Renee planned an extremely intimate wedding at Great Falls Park in McLean, Virginia. The only invited guests were John, Renee, John’s kids and Liesel the family dog. The wedding was kept a surprise from all of their family and friends until they shared it immediately after the wedding ceremony on Facebook from Renee’s iPhone 4. I had a blast hanging out with this happy family and wish them many years of happiness!

JESSICA + VICTOR // WEDDING

So what does a Museum, Egyptians and a hot married couple have in common? Well that’s exactly what was in common at the University of P ennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology in Philadelphia on Jessica and Victor’s big day. Jessica and Victor planned a ceremony and reception at the Penn Museum in the Lower Egyptian Gallery. The gallery set the tone for a warm and unique opportunity to not only witness and share in a wedding ceremony and reception but to explore a royal Egyptian palace and observe the third largest sphinx in the world, the 12-ton sphinx of Ramses II. This was one of the most fun events I’ve ever attended with all family members – including grandparents – boogeying into the wee hours of the morning. Jessica and Victor, congratulations and we’re so happy to have been a part of your day!

AMY + BILLY // WEDDING

The word that keeps coming to mind when I think of Amy and Billy’s wedding is ease. Amy and Billy truly enjoyed their day to the fullest. They enjoyed the time with their families and friends. It was this wedding I was truly looking forward to because I got to witness the connection that Amy and Billy shared on their engagement shoot at Longwood Gardens. Their wedding was an intensified expression of just how strong that connection was. Amy and Billy planned a classy wedding affair at the gorgeous Knowlton Mansion in Northeast Philadelphia. There are many moments on a wedding day, one of my favorite is always the first dance. It’s the moment when a couple comes together for an evening of friends, family and those closest to them and just get to spend a few moments soaking in the fact that they are now husband and wife. On a side note, coming from a wedding cinematography background, I am always pleased to see that brides and grooms feel as much importance a wedding film is as they do their wedding photography. Amy and Billy, your wedding was fabulous and I was thrilled we were able to be there to photograph your day.

LAURA + CHUCK // WEDDING

I knew from the moment I met Laura and Chuck they were my kind of people. Laura and Chuck planned a small wedding affair at her family farm in Preston, Maryland. After all the snow we had this winter which literally crippled the Eastern Shore of Maryland, Laura was afraid she wouldn’t be done work as a school teacher in time to celebrate her big day. Fortunately school let out in time and this couple celebrated their wedding with friends and family without a hitch. Early into her planning Laura shared with me that her grandfather had become ill and how much the family was looking forward to him sharing their wedding with him. You can imagine how pleased I was when I showed up to hear he was going to be able to watch the whole thing from the peace of their screened in porch. It takes quite a bit to rattle me on a wedding day, or any day for that matter. I walked away from Laura and Chuck’s wedding knowing I documented one of the most precious moments they will ever be able to enjoy for many years to come. It’s those little things, those things that bring a tear to my eye, that give me the fire and ambition get out and do this job and to honor this great responsibility of a wedding photojournalist to the best of my ability each and every weekend. JOCELYN + MIKE // WEDDING

I have to admit I had been looking forward to Jocelyn and Mike’s Crisfield, Maryland wedding for the past few months. During their engagement shoot Mike told me his son Josh was going to be the best man… I should probably mention Josh is four. The ceremony was held at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church right in the heart of downtown Crisfield. After the ceremony, Jocelyn and Mike spared a few minutes to take a few photos by the city docks. The reception followed at the Crisfield Elks Lodge where the girls certainly outdid the guys in breaking it down on the dance floor. The best man’s toast was probably one of the best I’ve heard in a while…. Quick, honest and to the point. Best of luck to the new family!

KRISTINA + JOE // WEDDING

There are few weddings I walk away from and say WOW! Did that just happen? I knew after spending a few hours in Baltimore, Maryland with Kristina and Joe during the engagement session they had some amazing stuff planned. Little did I know it was going to be one I won’t forget any time soon. Kristina and Joe started out their day at separate hotels just a few blocks away from the gorgeous St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Philadelphia. Kristina and Joe like many other young professionals in Philadelphia attend this church and were a gracious host to a memorable wedding ceremony. Immediately following the ceremony the couple was greeted (as Father Frank had the pleasure of introducing for the first time) by their friends and family on the steps of the church in a shower of bubbles. The newlyweds then climbed up into a beautiful white horse drawn carriage and set off in the streets of Philadelphia for a few locations they wanted to take photographs at. Our first stop was at the Swann Memorial Fountain at Logan Circle.Logan Circle is one of Penn’s original five squares and features a gorgeous aerial water attraction and blooming flower beds. Swann Fountain was a special stop for Kristina and Joe because it was one of the spots they shared a first date. As we were walking up to the fountain, I was thinking, OK, I’ll pose the bridal party here and maybe there and get the fountain in the background. Nope…. Kristina and Joe had a completely different plan as I turned back around I saw the entire, yes entire bridal party, kicking off their shoes and leap into the fountain splashing water on each other and having an absolute blast. After the water park detour we shot down the Benjamin Franklin Parkway to the Philadelphia Art Museum where the entire bridal made their way to the top of the notable “Rocky Steps” and snagged a few more photos with the city bustling in the background. After drying themselves off and ready to party, we arrived at Richmond Hall in Port Richmond which was just a short drive away. The reception was one of those locations that is big enough to stretch your arms but not quite big enough that you don’t get an opportunity to visit with all of your guests. Kristina’s sister as well as her aunt and uncle all sang love songs to the newlyweds in between the DJ getting the dance floor poppin’. As if it couldn’t get any better, we learned that Kristina’s father Albert Alfaro, an internationally recognized artist and sculptor had actually made the wedding cake topper to resemble bride and groom. I know I speak for Ashley, Sarah and myself that this one will be one of those wedding we won’t forget anytime soon. Congrats!

KATE + GREG // WEDDING

After spending just a few hours with Kate and Greg during their engagement shoot in Philadelphia I knew their wedding at the Independence Seaport Museum at Penns Landing was going to be nothing but top notch. While planning grand events and being in the lime light is nothing new to this theatrical couple, you could tell a lot of blood, sweat and tears went into all of the details of their big day. From the hand made table cards to the trivia game you had to solve to find out where you were sitting, the Eiffel tower cake topper (where they were engaged) and even their own vows they wrote for each other, this was one of those days where all of the time and attention to the finest details made a memorable event for everyone. It’s not often you find a bad ass funk band that knows how to get the crowd on the dance floor but the Philadelphia Funk Authority did just that, I mean after all they do guarantee an unforgettable party experience. As I look back through the photos from Kate and Greg’s classy Philadelphia wedding I say to myself, like the kid who just got off the roller coaster with his dad, “That was so much fun, can we do it again”. From Ashley, Rachel and myself thank you, your day rocked !

MEREDITH + JEFF // WEDDING

Meredith and Jeff’s destination wedding in Ocean City, Maryland was one I had been looking forward to all season. During their engagement shoot I could barely keep them off of each other. I immediately saw how much in love this couple was and knew their wedding would be a blast. Planning their beach wedding from Tennessee was a chore no doubt. Meredith and Jeff chose Assateauge Island National Seashore as the location of the ceremony and reception since it is one of their favorite places to vacation. The bride and groom started their day sequestered from each other at Meredith’s aunt’s house in Berlin. From there it was just a short drive to the where the ceremony and reception was going to take place. An evening ceremony is always fun, especially on the beach with that golden hour of gorgeous sunlight. Meredith and Jeff opted to meet before the ceremony and get all of the formal photos with family out of the way while we still could see what we were doing. The couple said their “I do’s” facing the Atlantic Ocean and shared the rest of the night with family and friends on the beach with a bonfire, music and lots of laughs. The highlight of the evening had to be the displaying of the wedding cake. When Meredith asked Jeff what kind of cake he wanted, he said if we’re in Maryland it needs to be a “Crab Cake”. Well crab cake it was… The cake by Duane the Cakesmith of Delaware created an amazing replica of a Maryland Blue Crab (after being steamed of course). It’s these small weddings where I actually get time to reflect on how awesome of a responsibility I have to document a wedding, the emotions, the characters and the events as they unfold. Just one more reason why I love being a wedding photojournalist. Best to you both!

ALICE + DAVID // WEDDING

I recently had the opportunity to work for the brilliant Dana Duncan on a wedding in Hampton Roads, Virginia. I met up with David and “the guys” at the Smithfield Station in Smithfield, Virginia where the anticipation of the big day was running ramped. On my drive down the Eastern Shore of Virginia that morning I couldn’t help but think the weather was doing anything but cooperating for outdoor wedding photos. As luck would have it and just as I arrived, the rain came to a screeching halt. The guys ran into a handful of bikers who were dodging the rain as well and of course we took advantage of some photographic opportunities with their Harley Davidson motorcycles. David and his gorgeous bride Alice planned on meeting before the ceremony and knocking out all the group photographs ahead of time to allow them to enjoy the cocktail hour with their friends and family instead of being tied up taking photographs. I’ve seen this trend growing more and more over the years and I absolutely think it’s the way to go, definitely a time saver. The wedding ceremony took place at the quaint St. Luke’s Historic Church in Smithfield, Virginia and the reception was held at The First Lady in Suffolk, Virginia. David and Alice had a special treat of riding to the reception in a classic antique Ford car. I can’t think of a better way to spend my days than ones like these… hanging out with fabulous people, Harley Davidson’s, antique cars, great music, great venues and knowing you’re documenting someones special moments they will cherish and share forever. Yeah that’s pretty much why I do this job! Congratulations Alice and David !!!!

SHARON + WELLS // WEDDING

I had the pleasure of documenting a very special and intimate wedding for Sharon and Wells in Smyrna, Delaware. The ceremony was held at the Asbury United Methodist Church and was limited to only a handful of family members. This was the second time I had the pleasure of working with this family as I documented Sharon’s son Paul’s wedding last year in Berlin, Maryland. The reception was held at the Granary Restaurant in Georgetown, Maryland which overlooked the Sassafras River. Some of these smaller weddings have been the most memorable for me, I really get time to meet and interact with the family and friends more so than some of the larger weddings.
