JOCELYN + MIKE // WEDDING

I have to admit I had been looking forward to Jocelyn and Mike’s Crisfield, Maryland wedding for the past few months. During their engagement shoot Mike told me his son Josh was going to be the best man… I should probably mention Josh is four. The ceremony was held at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church right in the heart of downtown Crisfield. After the ceremony, Jocelyn and Mike spared a few minutes to take a few photos by the city docks. The reception followed at the Crisfield Elks Lodge where the girls certainly outdid the guys in breaking it down on the dance floor. The best man’s toast was probably one of the best I’ve heard in a while…. Quick, honest and to the point. Best of luck to the new family!

KRISTINA + JOE // WEDDING

There are few weddings I walk away from and say WOW! Did that just happen? I knew after spending a few hours in Baltimore, Maryland with Kristina and Joe during the engagement session they had some amazing stuff planned. Little did I know it was going to be one I won’t forget any time soon. Kristina and Joe started out their day at separate hotels just a few blocks away from the gorgeous St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Philadelphia. Kristina and Joe like many other young professionals in Philadelphia attend this church and were a gracious host to a memorable wedding ceremony. Immediately following the ceremony the couple was greeted (as Father Frank had the pleasure of introducing for the first time) by their friends and family on the steps of the church in a shower of bubbles. The newlyweds then climbed up into a beautiful white horse drawn carriage and set off in the streets of Philadelphia for a few locations they wanted to take photographs at. Our first stop was at the Swann Memorial Fountain at Logan Circle.Logan Circle is one of Penn’s original five squares and features a gorgeous aerial water attraction and blooming flower beds. Swann Fountain was a special stop for Kristina and Joe because it was one of the spots they shared a first date. As we were walking up to the fountain, I was thinking, OK, I’ll pose the bridal party here and maybe there and get the fountain in the background. Nope…. Kristina and Joe had a completely different plan as I turned back around I saw the entire, yes entire bridal party, kicking off their shoes and leap into the fountain splashing water on each other and having an absolute blast. After the water park detour we shot down the Benjamin Franklin Parkway to the Philadelphia Art Museum where the entire bridal made their way to the top of the notable “Rocky Steps” and snagged a few more photos with the city bustling in the background. After drying themselves off and ready to party, we arrived at Richmond Hall in Port Richmond which was just a short drive away. The reception was one of those locations that is big enough to stretch your arms but not quite big enough that you don’t get an opportunity to visit with all of your guests. Kristina’s sister as well as her aunt and uncle all sang love songs to the newlyweds in between the DJ getting the dance floor poppin’. As if it couldn’t get any better, we learned that Kristina’s father Albert Alfaro, an internationally recognized artist and sculptor had actually made the wedding cake topper to resemble bride and groom. I know I speak for Ashley, Sarah and myself that this one will be one of those wedding we won’t forget anytime soon. Congrats!

KATE + GREG // WEDDING

After spending just a few hours with Kate and Greg during their engagement shoot in Philadelphia I knew their wedding at the Independence Seaport Museum at Penns Landing was going to be nothing but top notch. While planning grand events and being in the lime light is nothing new to this theatrical couple, you could tell a lot of blood, sweat and tears went into all of the details of their big day. From the hand made table cards to the trivia game you had to solve to find out where you were sitting, the Eiffel tower cake topper (where they were engaged) and even their own vows they wrote for each other, this was one of those days where all of the time and attention to the finest details made a memorable event for everyone. It’s not often you find a bad ass funk band that knows how to get the crowd on the dance floor but the Philadelphia Funk Authority did just that, I mean after all they do guarantee an unforgettable party experience. As I look back through the photos from Kate and Greg’s classy Philadelphia wedding I say to myself, like the kid who just got off the roller coaster with his dad, “That was so much fun, can we do it again”. From Ashley, Rachel and myself thank you, your day rocked !

SARAH + LUKE // ENGAGEMENT

It’s not often you get the opportunity to work for your peers let alone your competition. Needless to say I was excited and nervous about shooting Sarah and Luke’s engagement session in Ocean City, Maryland. You see Sarah and Luke are both firefighters in Bethany Beach, Delaware and I’m a firefighter in Ocean City, Maryland. Our departments work and train together often so I’ve seen this couple getting down and dirty… on the fire ground that is. So the competition…. Sarah is also a photographer here on the Eastern Shore. I think we picked one of the hottest days of the summer to shoot their engagement photographs, it had to be at least 100 degrees. You would think living here at the beach you would get used to the temperature… not so much. We met at Northside Park in Ocean City and actually stumbled upon an Art show taking place in the park. While we fought the heat we certainly grabbed some amazing shots that definitely brought out the personality in this couple. Their wedding at Baywood Greens in Long Neck, Delaware this fall is certain to be one to remember. Cheers to you both!

MEREDITH + JEFF // WEDDING

Meredith and Jeff’s destination wedding in Ocean City, Maryland was one I had been looking forward to all season. During their engagement shoot I could barely keep them off of each other. I immediately saw how much in love this couple was and knew their wedding would be a blast. Planning their beach wedding from Tennessee was a chore no doubt. Meredith and Jeff chose Assateauge Island National Seashore as the location of the ceremony and reception since it is one of their favorite places to vacation. The bride and groom started their day sequestered from each other at Meredith’s aunt’s house in Berlin. From there it was just a short drive to the where the ceremony and reception was going to take place. An evening ceremony is always fun, especially on the beach with that golden hour of gorgeous sunlight. Meredith and Jeff opted to meet before the ceremony and get all of the formal photos with family out of the way while we still could see what we were doing. The couple said their “I do’s” facing the Atlantic Ocean and shared the rest of the night with family and friends on the beach with a bonfire, music and lots of laughs. The highlight of the evening had to be the displaying of the wedding cake. When Meredith asked Jeff what kind of cake he wanted, he said if we’re in Maryland it needs to be a “Crab Cake”. Well crab cake it was… The cake by Duane the Cakesmith of Delaware created an amazing replica of a Maryland Blue Crab (after being steamed of course). It’s these small weddings where I actually get time to reflect on how awesome of a responsibility I have to document a wedding, the emotions, the characters and the events as they unfold. Just one more reason why I love being a wedding photojournalist. Best to you both!

KATIE // SUMMER PORTRAITS

Katie and I met at a Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce – Young Professionals Committee social and have been talking for quite some time about setting up a fun summer portrait shoot. Early on into our conversations on where, what and when, Katie mentioned she had a super fly white Ford Mustang California special that she was very interested in getting some awesome pictures with. The shoot was actually a good break of pace in between two other shoots I had planned this day, an engagement shoot and a family portrait on the beach. I always enjoy stepping away from my “normal routine” to shoot a few fun portraits because well… it allows me to have a little fun of course. Other than her college portrait pictures, Katie had never had any “professional” portraits taken and was a little nervous about what to expect. Of course she was a natural and needed very little guidance. I think the photos speak for themselves. Enjoy.

JENNIFER + NATHAN // ENGAGEMENT

When I got the call from Jennifer and Nathan about my availability to photograph their wedding I couldn’t have been more excited the date was still available. I’ve known Nathan for a several years through my affiliation as a Lieutenant with the Ocean City Fire Department and I’ve known for a while that he and Jennifer were planning a very simple and classy wedding in Pennsylvania. Nathan, Jennifer and I met at the Assawoman Wildlife Area near Fenwick Island and Bethany Beach Delaware to shoot their engagement photos. The wildlife area is a 3100 acre park which is a quiet oasis amidst several nearby local beach communities. When Nathan originally called and asked if I would mind if they brought Jennifer’s Corvette to take pictures with I was thinking it was a modern, sort of traditional car and didn’t think much of it. I was absolutely blown away when I saw them pull up in a 1963 Stingray Corvette and did I mention it was bright orange? The best part…. Jennifer was driving and Nathan was just enjoying the ride. The “Winder Tight” Corvette has been an important part of Jennifer’s life as it was her grandfathers which was refurbished by her father and then passed down to her over the years. When we first started shooting the weather was gorgeous… it would figure that after about 10 minutes into things a cold front and fog cloud rolled in and surrounded us. Even with the impending weather reports of heavy fog and possible rain, it didn’t stop us from pimping out the Corvette and spend a few minutes getting the feel for each other both in front of the camera and behind. I am definitely looking forward to this couples August 2010 wedding. Best!

JOHNSON FAMILY // BEACH PORTRAITS

Being primarily a wedding photographer I always get excited when someone calls and asks if I’m available to shoot their family portraits, especially when I can kick off my shoes while doing it. I had already scheduled an engagement shoot and a trash the dress shoot this day so I knew it was going to be a busy one. The Johnson family and I met up at the Assateague Island National Seashore in Berlin, Maryland and spent some time with our feet in the sand grabbing some spectacular beach portraits. Sharing a little time with the Johnson family was a great way to wrap up my day, the beach was the icing on the cake.

ELIZABETH + TOMMY // ENGAGEMENT

Elizabeth and Tommy chose Rehoboth Beach, Delaware as the setting of their wedding engagement photos. The lovely couple and I decided to meet on the boardwalk in front of the Henlopen Hotel which is known for the famous Salero Restaurante. Wouldn’t it figure as soon as we rounded the corner of the hotel we were met by big construction fences and a boardwalk that was under renovation. Feeling a little on the risky side, Elizabeth, Tommy and I ventured out onto the partially constructed boardwalk and snapped a few photos for the heck of it. What engagement shoot at the beach wouldn’t be complete without a few portraits with their feet in the sand and we wrapped up at a nearby park where Elizabeth even got Tommy to pose with a few props she brought along for the occasion. Elizabeth and Tommy are planning a mid summer wedding at Baywood Greens Golf and Country Club in Long Neck Delaware. Best to you both!

LAURA + CHUCK // ENGAGEMENT

Laura, Chuck and I met at the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum in St. Michaels, Maryland to shoot their engagement photos. As luck would have it our initial shoot was cancelled due to rain and the second time ended up being the charm. The Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum was a special place for both of them because it was the location of one of their first dates. I can’t tell you how excited I was to meet these education professionals and spend a few hours getting to know them better. If the engagement shoot was any indication of how much fun these two are, their wedding is going to be off the hook. Laura and Chuck are planning a summer wedding on a family farm in Preston, Maryland. Best wishes to you both!
